Spain

« Costas & Tapas, Siesta & Fiesta »

The ‘Costas’. Passion and inspiration for the young. Unfortunately, all too often marred by concrete constructions? Hotels, tourist lodgings, discos? With an architecture that leaves room for improvement?

Olé! No, Spain is more than that. Because you still find long beaches there, perfectly maintained, an oasis of space and tranquillity. Running out into the Mediterranean Sea. Yes, the sun is very generous there. And the famous ‘Spanish nights’ are the mildest in the world. Variety? You bet: variety is a Spanish hallmark. Geographical: modern and traditional cities, seashores and the Pyrenees. Cultural: Islamic palaces, Roman ruins, Gothic cathedrals, avant-garde architecture in Barcelona. Plus, Spain is the birthplace of El Greco, Goya, Dali, Picasso and Miro.

And what’s cooking in Spain? Spanish cuisine is decidedly delicious and varied. Tapas or a grillade of shellfish in a typical Madrid brasserie is irresistible! And the prices are often more democratic than the European average. Si, the siesta flirts with the fiesta. And puts you in a good mood! In short: only a bull would turn down an invitation to this Spanish adventure…

Eating and Drinking

Meals are generally hearty and consist of 4 to 5 courses. Spanish cuisine is characterised by the use of olive oil and lots of garlic in the cooking. Along the coast, fish and seafood constitute the main courses, while in the hinterland, lamb, rabbit and other -meat dishes are generally served. ”Tapas” (appetisers) are typically Spanish, served at all hours. Lunch is served between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, dinner between 9 pm and 11 pm. Service is included, but it is common practice to leave a supplementary tip.

Travelling by Car

The motorways are toll roads. The speed limit is 120 km/h on the motorways, 100 km/h on the fast lanes and 60 km/h in town. Seat belts are obligatory in the front and back of the vehicle. The -alcohol limit is 0.8 pro mille.
